Foam Mushroom Prop & Caterpillar Costume
Mushrooms are made from open celled foam and carved into shape. It is coated with a diy foam coat mixture and layers of a paper maché type covering. The mushrooms and base are painted with matte acrylic and latex paint. NOTE: The paint is not sealed. It should be protected with a matte sealer at some point.
The red mushroom measures approximately 4’ tall (the top is approx. 4’ wide). The bottom of the mushroom is attached to a 4’ x 3’ MDF base. The top of the mushroom is removeable for transportation. There is a cutout in both top and bottom for an actor to stand. These cutouts are lined with white felt (as is the top of the base) with a line of black felt at the shoe line.
The red mushroom top connects to the base by four 2x4s that slip into holes in the foam lined with galvanized post brackets. When taken apart, the top and the base can be picked up by one person.
The removable purple mushroom (top and bottom are one piece) has a curve cut out to slip closer to the red mushroom’s base. The red mushroom can be used alone, it is centered on the black base.
The hand dyed costume consists of a body made from layers of batting and upholstery foam on a heavy wire frame (slightly bendable). The fabric is hombre dyed jersey knit, gathered to be wrinkly. The T-shirt is a Medium size and has an extra section at the neck, tied with a cord in back. The sides of the T-shirt are ruched with elastic. The matching headpiece is a bike helmet with batting and gathered fabric. Dyed gloves are included.
