This is an example of how postal mail is delivered in rural China.
For this reason, we would like to take our donations of clothing and cleft bottles with us in our suitcases.

If our Ellery is living in foster care (which is likely since she needs special care),
the good thing is that she is loved daily, but her living conditions would be similar to these two photos.

Below are photos of the conditions in Social Welfare Institutions (SWIs or orphanages). Some are cleaner than others, some have better clothing and food, with so many abandoned children, nearly all are over-crowded.
Babies that are nearly able to sit up sit for the majority of the day in walkers or the wooden potty chairs
you see below. Most babies have at least some scarring on their wrist and/or ankles from being tethered
to their potty chairs or cribs for their safety.

In the summer, babies sleep directly on wood slats to keep them cooler as the SWIs have no air conditioning. In the winter, the babies are bundled with many layers of clothing to keep them warm due to the lack of proper heating systems. The babies cannot move and most have never experienced their hands and feet as play toys.

This is a photo of an abandoned baby girl in a market. This is a very upsetting subject, the images
are disturbing but if you would care to read more about China's abandoned baby girls, click here
